Nick Johnson and Eric Guise (goes by Guise) started their journey as teachers who shared an office. They would find themselves competing in everything from paper football launching to who could flip their classrooms most efficiently. These competitions led to friendship and eventually the start of GotTechED the Podcast in March of 2019. After the podcast started to gain momentum, they both started to present at conferences. One of their staple presentations is called the Edtech Throwdown. During this presentation, Nick and Guise would present 5-10 edtech tools and practices each. The audience would then vote to see who presented the best collection of resources. From the popularity and success of this presentation, Nick and Guise decided to rebrand the podcast to The Edtech Throwdown Podcast in January of 2024!

The Edtech Throwdown is released every other Monday on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, YouTube, and many other popular podcast platforms. The segments cover a range of topics, including pedagogy, trends, and lesson ideas, but always centered around educational technology. By interviewing teachers and leaders in the edtech world, Nick and Guise provide an engaging platform full of new and unique ideas. As a lifelong athlete and coach, Guise brings a competitive spirit to recurring segments such as the “Edtech Throwdown” where opponents argue over who has discovered the best new edtech. As an award-winning science teacher, Nick brings research and reflection that is unmatched in the educational podcast world. Together, they produce a show that is engaging and fun.

Eric Guise, Ed.D

Eric Guise is a media specialist and technology coach with more than a decade of experience as a Biology, Biochemistry, and Bioethics teacher.
As co-creator of the Edtech Throwdown, Eric (Known as Guise) has teamed up with long-time friend and officemate, Nick Johnson, to share his educational technology expertise with teachers around the world. Eric is a recognized professional development and educational technology expert, who has presented at countless events, including ISTE, NJECC, and the NJ Science Teachers Convention. He has guested on several podcasts and YouTube shows.
Eric was named the 2016 Biology Teacher of Year by the New Jersey Biology Teachers Association and completed his EdD in Leadership in Digital Transformation in Educational Technology.

As co-host of the Edtech Throwdown, Nick has teamed up with his long-time friend and officemate, Eric Guise, to share his educational technology expertise with teachers around the world.  Nick is known for his Flipped Classroom teaching style and loves exploring different teaching styles.
In addition to GotTechED the Podcast, you can find Nick as a presenter at events such as ISTE, NJECC, and the NJ Science Teachers Convention. Nick has earned a Master of Science in Educational Theory and Practice and was recently selected as a 2018 Governor’s Educator of the Year and the 2018-2019 Mercer County NJ Teacher of the Year.
